Norton Flattening Stone for Waterstones, 3/4" x 3" x 9" in plastic case Description


The Norton flattening stone for waterstones is precisely level, with a hard bond, to maintain the flat surface of waterstones; coarse-grit silicon carbide gives it maximum cutting power, and diagonal grooves on one face provide channels for material removal. This flattening stone measures 3/4 x 9 x 3 inches (H x W x D), which makes it suitable for flattening any waterstone with lesser dimensions. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The plastic case protects and stores the stone.

Flattening stones are abrasive rectangular blocks used to smooth the sharpening surfaces and flatten the depressions that repeated use wears in water-lubricated sharpening stones (waterstones), to prepare them for effective sharpening of knives or tools. Waterstones have a finer grit and softer bond than oilstones, and use water as the lubricant to develop a slurry, a thin paste of abrasive grains and water that removes metal with less pressure than oilstone requires. Because of these characteristics, waterstones wear concave with use, and should be flattened periodically for best performance.

The Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe Webcam was pretty easy to figure out and install. The software loaded fast and easy and the webcam sits on my flatscreen monitor securely. The camera picture quality and sound are great and I use it with Skype to talk with people overseas. I am not sure if it is a problem with Skype or the software, but I cannot make video calls to people if I want to use the camera. For some reason the camera doesn't turn on and work. I have to call the person on Skype not making a video call and then later turning on the video. There doesn't seem to be any settings that I make the Skype software and the camera work together so I can click on video call and the camera will work. Otherwise the camera works great.

The QuickCam is exactly what i wanted -- easy to hook-up, easy to use. I have friends in Europe and on the right coast whom i haven't seen for years. Email is fine, but just not enough. My daughter recently moved to Spain and I needed to find a webcam compatible with a six year old Sony Vaio with Microsoft XP/Vista and hi-speed internet. I had procrastinated setting up the Skype until after she had moved. I had been shopping on Amazon but didn't know exactly which webcam to buy. The Skype site suggested several webcams compatible to our computer. They "hooked me up" with Amazon and I ordered the Logitech QuickCam for 34.99. I received it in 2 business days (no shipping charge). I didn't think I would be able to set the webcam up myself but it was a cinch. It rests securely on the moniter and it is very, very simple to use. The video, audio and microphone are super clear. My initial thought was that if this webcam didn't work very well than I can upgrade. I really don't feel as though I need to upgrade anytime soon! I had company at the house the other day & we gathered around the computer to Skype with my daughter in Spain and also with my niece in California. It was perfect! I am very happy with this webcam.

This accessory is useful. The dock cannot be used to charge all Motorola phones. I have a SLVR phone and I can't use the dock to charge it. But overall, there a enough functions on the dock and it can be adjusted pretty straigthforwardly. The "connect automatically function" isn't that great especially when you come back home talking to the phone. It transfers it automatically to your homephone while you're talking... I prefer the manual mode!

I bought this phone system (base + extra b/w extension) over the summer specifically because of the forthcoming bluetooth cell dock. After waiting for months, it finally came out late fall. Bluetooth is difficult to set up on my Motorola cellphone (if any cellphone should be easy, it should be one made by the same company). Dock doesn't work as a charger for my phone. I rarely use it because once it is set up, it then becomes difficult to revert to landline calls. Should have probably returned it.

I've had one of these for more than 6 months, to connect a Moto PEBL into our phone system.
It works very poorly. Making outgoing calls is fine, but every once in a while when an call comes in we pick up using a handset but can hear nothing and neither can the caller.
It cannot be used to charge the PEBL.
Another problem is that it interferes badly with our 802.11b WiFi system (it effectlvely disables a wireless music streaming device in the same room). We've unplugged it; I wish I had returned it.

Somebody spent a lot of time designing this fan. If it was made with metal, it would have been even better. It definitely "could be" a very quiet fan, and the oscillation and tilt feature is well thought out.

However, right out of the box, my fan had an irritating rattle - so much so I had to unscrew the back fan guard to see what was wrong with the fan blades. That's when I noticed the fan blades are one unit, molded plastic, and it was unbalanced. It is mounted on sound deadening material instead of directly to the motor shaft. This allowed the molded blade assembly to move around slightly just by pushing it. Reassembled the fan guard - and it was quiet . . . in the horizontal position. Tilted the fan upwards and the rattle came back. Tilted it back down and it was quiet again.

My fan lucked out on the timer also. The old fashion timer clicked constantly. Used in a bedroom, the clicking noise was unacceptably loud. Even with the fan off, the clicks kept going for almost half an hour before it finally stopped.

I returned the fan. Nice design, but it needs more work.
